The largest proportion of spending for all Members of Parliament is their staffing budget, followed by the costs of running the office, such as paying rental costs, electricity for the office and stationary such as letters for responding to residents' correspondence.
As most MPs send hundreds of letters every week, in response to constituents, this is often a considerable cost.
Jade does not claim a 'heating allowence', for food or for travel within her constituency. All Jade's travel claims are economy class or cheaper.
Main categories of spend - and what they are spent on
Staffing
The largest proportion of spending for all Members of Parliament is their staffing budget. As with pay for MPs, pay scales are set by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority.
This budget is used to employ a very small team of staff, split between their constituency and Parliament, to support local residents with issues and to support the MP in their work.
Office costs
The Office Costs budget allows MPs to have an office in their constituency from which they can work and support local residents.
The majority of this budget is taken up by office rental costs, alongside running costs, such as paying for the electricity, furniture, IT equipment and stationary, such as letters and envelopes for responding to constituents.
Accommodation & Travel
When Parliament is sitting, MPs are required to be in London to vote on behalf of their constituency. This budget covers the costs of the accommodation for staying in London to ensure that all MPs can represent their area in Parliament, not just those who are already in London.
Travel expenses cover an MP's travel costs. This is generally economy class train tickets to and from London.
